About Dawson Creek
Not to be confused with the fictional "Dawson’s Creek" of TV fame, or Dawson City in the Yukon, Dawson Creek is centrally located in the beautiful Peace River Country in the northeast corner of British Columbia. Our city (population about 14,000) is the junction of four major highways: one to Yukon and Alaska; one to Prince George and Vancouver; one to Grande Prairie and Edmonton; and one to the Northern Alberta Peace region.

The elevation is 655m (2183ft.). Average temperatures range from a high of -9 to a low of -21 C in January and from a high of 28 to a low of 9 C in July. Average hours of bright sunshine per month vary from about 62 in December to 310 in July! The average snowfall in January is 32 cm and average rainfall in July is 84 mm. We are in the Mountain Standard time zone year round (no changing of clocks!).

Check out the Tourism Dawson Creek web site at www.tourismdawsoncreek.com or go to www.dawsoncreek.ca for a nice introduction to the city. There you will find just about everything you need to know, including maps, driving distances to various cities in Canada and the United States, prominent tourist destinations in the area, a complete listing of all hotel, motel, camp, RV park and B & B accommodation, and lots more. Download this Community Profile (PDF) for every detail you could want to know about the city, its economy, the weather, health services, history, education and, well, you name it. As they say, "Located at Mile "0" of the world famous Alaska Highway, Dawson Creek has something for everyone!"

And the city is growing! This is creating opportunities for new small businesses, especially trucking, contracting, repair shops, general stores, specialty stores, farming and ranching, hobby farms, game farms with tours, golf courses and Bed and Breakfasts, as well as major chains like Wal~Mart and well known motels. A large new $32,000,000 "Multiplex" arena with an aquatic centre, is currently nearing completion, and housing development is keeping contractors fully booked. Help wanted signs are everywhere.

Come and see!
