Our Beliefs

The Glendale New Church is part of the Church of the New Jerusalem, sometimes known as Swedenborgian, and is a Christian Church that worships the Lord God Jesus Christ, and believes He is the Divine Human God, who is knowable, personal, and loving. The church teaches that God took on the natural human form of Jesus Christ in order to show us that we can have a personal relationship with Him. His work of redemption and His glorification established anew the communication between heaven and earth so that we can once again be enlightened in moral and spiritual truths.

This religion teaches that the Lord’s second coming has been accomplished, and continues to happen for all of us when His Divine Truth is born again in our hearts, minds, and lives. It teaches about the eternity of heaven and hell, the eternity and importance of true marriage love between one man and one woman, and the importance of a life of useful service. The Glendale New Church is all about the marriage of two elements that are too often separate in our lives. These two elements take on many names including: good and truth, faith and charity, will and understanding, thoughts and affections, love and wisdom, masculine and feminine, intellect and motivation. Neither of these two elements works properly on its own. When these two elements become married in our lives, then we are truly in the image of God.

The Glendale New Church is based on the Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg who was a servant of God–a revelator–who brought a new understanding of the Bible to the world. He explains that the entire Bible, like Jesus’ parables, has a deeper spiritual meaning to it. This deeper meaning explains the importance of the unity of faith and charity in life, and it assures us that everyone has a place in heaven if they believe in God, and live a good life according to the teachings of their religion. The Glendale New Church teaches tolerance towards the many different good and true ways that a person can worship and praise the Lord.

He is continually striving to bring every single person on earth into the eternal happiness of heaven. Hell is simply the place people go if they choose to refuse the happiness of heaven that the Lord is offering to them. The point is that we are spiritually free to choose good or evil, which is why we can be eternally happy in heaven, because it is a conscious choice. This is also the reason why evil exists in this world–because we are free to choose it, not because God created it, but because He wants us to be free. This religion teaches us how to change our bad habits and become a better, more useful and thoughtful person, so that eventually we become an angel in heaven.
