Self Connection Books in Calgary maintains a limited stock of books by and about Emanuel Swedenborg, and will also gladly order more. The books are reasonably priced and one advantage of ordering from Self Connection is that it reinforces the message that these books are important, and in demand. When you call ask for Marla Simpson or Michael Finch, and mention the Project to them. The store has two locations:
4004 - 19th Street NW (tel. 403-284-1486)
564, 10816 Macleod Trail SE (tel. 403-225-8887)
Also check their website at www.selfconnection.ca.
The Calgary Public Library system has many books by or about Emanuel Swedenborg, which may be accessed through any local branch (no matter where they may be shelved). You can also go directly to the libray's website and search the catalogue and reserve books at home. Go to www.calgarypubliclibrary.com.
The University of Calgary also has one of the most extensive collections of these books in the province. They are housed in two or three locations. First there is the general collection on the fourth floor of the McKimmie Tower, where you will find new and old books, including some classics and even one new volume in Chinese!
Next there is the special collection in the library of the Religious Studies department, on the 13th floor ( ! ) of the Sciences tower, where you will find a complete set of the Arcana Caelestia, new volumes of Heaven and Hell and Divine Providence, and several other important titles.
Finally the computer system of the humanities department, with offices on the 3rd floor of McKimmie Block, will give you access to literally hundreds of titles that are either squirreled away in some archive somewhere or available electronically. Recently we presented the library, and also Dr. Irving Hexham in particular, with a copy of "Newsearch 98," the computer program that contains all of the Writings with a lightning fast search engine, making any specific word or phrase used by Swedenborg (in English or Latin) accessible in seconds.
