The New Church at Boynton Beach has special services of worship to mark holidays that turn our hearts to the Lord in special ways. We also offer the Holy Supper in response to the Lord's command, "Do this in remembrance of Me."
You are welcome to join us and participate in our special services. Please note that although they are built on our regular Sunday services, they also have variations in how they are conducted or in the time of day that you will want to be familiar with. Please note the dates in the list below and click on any service you will attend to see what to expect. For the most up-to-date variations and times, check the weekly calendar on our "Community" page.

Special Services:
Holy Supper Adults of any denomination are invited to partake of the Holy Supper. This is offered quarterly at the end of the regular service (or privately by appointment with the pastor). Those taking communion kneel at the chancel rail or sit in the front row if they cannot manage kneeling. Participation starts with the rows in front first. Please approach through the side aisles and return to your seat through the center aisle. If you start forward and see no empty places at the chancel rail, simply take a seat in one of the front rows, and wait until the next 'table' after the present communicants have returned to their seats. Watch for directions from the ushers who help this service go smoothly. Back to Services List
Palm Sunday Those who wish to participate in the palm procession (usually children and their parents) pick up a palm leaf on their way into the sanctuary. For many, this is a joyful reenactment of the praise that accompanied Jesus' ride into Jerusalem. Back to Services List
Good Friday In 2008 we are taking the Holy Supper out of this service and putting it on Thursday, March 20th at 6:00 PM. The Thursday service is for adults, as it is designed around the Holy Supper. The administration of the Holy Supper is a prominent part of this service. The Good Friday service in 2008 at 6:00 PM will be for all ages who are able to sit through an hour-long service consisting of readings from the gospels concerning Jesus' final week on earth, accompanied by appropriate readings from the Heavenly Doctrine. Easter Most worshipers bring potted or cut flowers to the Easter service for a floral procession. For many, the flowers express joy for the eternal life that the Lord's resurrection made possible. After the service, the flowers are donated to shut-ins and local charities. This service is at 11:00 AM in those years (such as 2008) when it is followed by a potluck Easter dinner, so call to be sure of the time, or check our most up-to-date calendar on the "Community" page a week or two in advance. New Church Day A special family service is held on a Sunday near the 19th of June. This celebrates an event recorded in True Christian Religion, namely, the Lord's calling together of the disciples who had followed Him in the natural world, and the sending of them throughout the spiritual world to proclaim the good news that the Lord God Jesus Christ reigns. This took place on the 19th of June, 1770. We use this service to celebrate all that is implied by the Second Coming of the Lord. The children may pick up a New Church flag on their way into the sanctuary for a flag procession. The red and white of the flag symbolizes love and wisdom from the Lord. Small gifts are given to the children afterwards. Please call ahead to be sure a gift is prepared for your child. Note: in 2008 this service will be at 8:00 AM outdoors (weather permitting) and followed by a breakfast provided by the social committee. Back to Services List
Thanksgiving This service is often held at 11:00 AM, as a potluck Thanksgiving dinner often follows. Please call ahead to check time, or check our most up-to-date calendar on the "Community" page a week or two in advance. Most of the worshipers bring fruit, vegetable or non-perishable offerings to the service for a harvest procession. This offering is a means to especially thank the Lord for all the harvest of natural and spiritual gifts that He gives. After the service, the offerings are boxed for delivery to shut-ins or a local charity. Back to Services List
Evening Advent Service On a Sunday shortly before Christmas, we have a special evening service (and no service that morning) to visually reenact the Christmas story. Back to Services List
Christmas Eve This service, held at 5:30 PM, has a single talk for the whole family. Small gifts are presented to the children afterwards. Please call ahead to be sure a gift is prepared for your child. Back to Services List
Christmas Day This service, like our Sunday service, includes a children's talk and Sunday School. Back to Services List
Processions Several of our special occasions use a procession to express a glad approach to the Lord. The processions begin during the second hymn of the service. Come forward by the center aisle, hand your offering (palm, flowers, flag or food, depending on the service) to the minister and then return by the side aisles to your seat. It works best if enter the aisle only when it is your row's turn to join in, so as not to impede those returning to their seats. Watch for directions from the usher. If you are not participating in the procession, you may need to step into the aisle to let participants pass. Back to Services List
