You are welcome to every service at The New Church of Boynton Beach. Weekly Sunday service begins at 10:00 AM, with the exceptions of special services on holidays and special occasions. There is ample parking at the rear of the church with level access to the church.
Services focus on reverence for the Lord and respect for His Holy Word. Once in the worship space we keep conversation to a minimum to allow our full attention to rest on the Lord. Click on the following topics to learn more:
If your visit will be on a holiday, visit the Special Services, and learn about processions and variations to our regular Sunday service and times.

Details of a Sunday Service
Focus The focus of our Sunday services is on the Lord Jesus Christ, for in the person of Jesus Christ, God came to earth that we might know Him and learn of Him.

Our Sunday services are built around the Word of God (commonly referred to as the Bible), for it is from His Word that the Lord teaches us. You will see the Word prominently displayed at the front of the church, on a lovely altar formed of a granite boulder.
As you participate in these services, you will hear and read many passages from the Word. Many of our hymns and prayers also draw on Biblical themes and phrases. Back to topic list
Sermon A sermon is used to develop understanding of the Lord, His Word, and its meaning for our lives. You can also expect to hear a lot about life in heaven, for that is what life on earth prepares us for. Click on Recent Sermons to see for yourself. Back to topic list
Parking is at the rear of the church, including two spaces reserved for handicap parking. There is designated overflow parking on the packed earth. Back to topic list
Access A lighted, 200-foot concrete path leads to the church entrance. As you enter, a cry room is on your right, the Boker Room (a fellowship hall) on your left, and the Sanctuary is straight ahead. Back to topic list
Assistance A greeter or an usher can assist you if you have any questions about the service, the nursery, or the Sunday School. They can give you a detailed welcome booklet to help you navigate the service. On your way in you can pick up a half-sheet of paper on which is a listing of the readings for the day and the full text of the reading from the Heavenly Doctrine. On the back is a summary of the message for the day. Back to topic list
Hearing Assistance A greeter or an usher can assist you in borrowing a wireless headset which can be worn with or without a hearing aid and amplifies the spoken portions of the service. Back to topic list
Atmosphere As you enter the Sanctuary you may notice that conversation is kept to a minimum. People enjoy this time for quiet reflection or simply for enjoying the organ music that precedes the service. Back to topic list
Freewill Offering Voluntary offerings may be made in the collection bowl at the entrance. Although the money supports the work of the church, the freewill offering is primarily a symbolic part of our worship, in the spirit of returning thanks and praise to the Lord for all that He has given us. No further collection is taken during the service. The offerings made at the beginning of the service are presented after the children's talk with words of thanks, praise, or a prayer for acceptance of our offering. Back to topic list
Kneeling and Prayer It is our custom to kneel for the prayers, although many find it easier to sit. Kneeling pads are available beneath the chair in front of you. Our services always include a New Church translation of the Lord's Prayer as taken from the Gospel of Matthew. You can read this translation in the "office" from the liturgy as announced on the hymn board. Back to topic list
Hymn Board Liturgy numbers for hymns and congregational readings are listed on boards on either side of the chancel. Back to topic list
Order of Service The second number on the hymn board is usually the "office" which gives the order of service for the day and most of the congregational readings. Following the "sanctus" the congregation is invited to turn to a recitation or responsive reading. Keep a finger in the page of the "office" you are leaving, as you will return to it for the "gloria" after the recitation or responsive reading. Services usually last about 50 minutes, not including the quiet time or music before and after the service. Back to topic list
Cry Room Adjacent to the sanctuary is a room where parents can take children whose activity or noises may be distracting other worshipers. From this room, the service can be seen through one-way glass and heard via speakers. Unfortunately, it is not so soundproof that loud voices in the cry room will not disturb those in the sanctuary. Children's Talk A reading from the Lord's Word and a message for he day are given especially for children of preschool and elementary school age. After the talk, all stand for a child-friendly hymn and the presentation of the freewill offering. The congregation remains standing for a benediction on the children. During the hymn that follows, the children go out to the nursery or Sunday School, accompanied by the volunteers on duty. Back to topic list
Nursery A nursery for children through about age four or five is next door in the Office and Education Center. Your child can follow the nursery volunteer out of the sanctuary and to the right, across the Boker Room and over to the Education Center. Parents who accompany their children slip quietly back into their seats by the end of the hymn. Those who do not get back before the hymn ends may listen to the service from the cry room until the congregation stands for the doxology. Back to topic list
Sunday School The younger Sunday School is for children age 5 to 10. The upper Sunday School is for children age 10 through eighth grade. Your child can follow the Sunday School teachers out and to the right, across the Boker Room and over to the Education Center. Parents who accompany their children slip quietly back into their seats by the end of the hymn. Those who do not get back before the hymn ends may listen to the service from the cry room until the congregation stands for the doxology. Back to topic list
Scripture Reading In addition to the reading from the Lord's Word to the children, it is usual to have a second lesson from the Old or New Testaments, followed by a lesson from the Heavenly Doctrine for the New Church. Back to topic list
Heavenly Doctrine refers to that revelation which Emanuel Swedenborg received from the Lord Jesus Christ while he read the Lord's Word. He received this revelation during a period of more than 25 years when his spiritual senses were opened and he had daily visits to heaven, hell and the world of spirits where people first awaken after death. In the New Church at Boynton Beach, the Heavenly Doctrine is acknowledged to be Divine revelation and thus the Lord's own continuation of the Word of the Lord. Back to topic list
