Housing Leads Sought

The Academy of the New Church Theological School has approached us about the possibility of placing a candidate for ordination in Boynton Beach for about ten weeks this Fall. The candidate would do some preaching, give some classes, do pastoral visiting and in general, immerse himself in the activity of the society as part of his pastoral training. As pastor, I see a lot of potential benefit for the society, myself, and the candidate in hosting his practicum experience. The Pastor's Council and Board have been affirmative to the idea. Before we can proceed, however, we need to explore solutions to some practical details. The first is "Where can a couple and their toddler live for about ten weeks of the term that stretches from late August until mid November?" The concept the theological school is presenting is that reasonable expenses will be covered by the program, so that they are not expecting a host society or a host family to be out-of-pocket, except for incidental things. If you have a whole or partial solution to offer, please contact Rachel Boyce to explore it in more detail.

On the Bulletin Board is an invitation to the wedding of Hans S. and Bethany A. on August 8 in Bryn Athyn, PA. (Contact pastor for further details)

MESSAGE FROM BISHOP KLINE

One of the key initiatives of the General Church is the formation of an Online Church. Mr. David Childs has been hired as the lay director of this project and we need an experienced priest to be pastor of this project.

I have asked the Rev. Grant Schnarr to become the Senior Pastor of the General Church Online Church, effective April 1st, 2008. Grant will remain Assistant Pastor of the Bryn Athyn Society until the time that the Bryn Athyn Society chooses to select an assistant pastor to replace Grant Schnarr. This transition could take place next year or could be something that happens in a matter of years. In effect, we are making the online church a combined effort of the Bryn Athyn Society and the General Church.

Grant will finish out the 2007-2008 school year teaching fifth grade religion, and then continue his leadership role as Assistant Pastor and Vice President of the Bryn Athyn Society.

In order to give the Bryn Athyn Society additional support during this time, I have asked the Rev. Glenn (Mac) Frazier to become an assistant to the pastor of the Bryn Athyn Society, appointed by the Bishop, effective July of this year.

To put this in simple terms, Grant will be devoting the majority of his time to the online project as a General Church/Bryn Athyn Society outreach effort. Mac is being assigned to Bryn Athyn to help fill any need arising from this additional program.

I have presented this plan to the Bryn Athyn Board of Trustees and they have affirmed it unanimously.

Please contact Jeremy Simons or me with any questions you might have.

Sincerely,

Rt. Rev. Thomas L. Kline

Flower donations The box for receiving donations for chancel flowers is back on the bulletin board in the Bill Boker Room. With Easter approaching, additional funding for fresh flowers would be much appreciated.

Community Caring Center The Boynton Beach society has, for the past several years, donated non- perishable food items, canned goods, and paper products to the Community Caring Center.

This Easter Season, we remember others who need assistance in providing enough food for their families. Baskets will be out in the Boker Room for a month, from Sunday, March 16th, to Sunday, April 13th. This will give you four Sundays in which to remember to bring your donation!

Thank you,

Patrick & Gale A.

The Doctrine of Charity will be the next little book we will take up in our discussion groups in April and May. We will again have a pattern of two weeks of brief daily readings followed by a discussion group meeting. Readings will begin on March 24 with discussions planned for the weeks of April 6 and 20th and May 4th and 18th. The Doctrine of Charity is a practice-oriented book, unique for its chapter detailing what charity looks like in various occupations (our third discussion). The book is contained in Posthumous Theological Works Vol. 1) or is bound on its own. If you would like to order a copy, please contact Nancy B. as soon as possible. If you would like to receive a daily e-mail with that day's reading, please contact the pastor by e-mail. If you would like to join a discussion group, form a new one, or change groups, contact the pastor.
