Outreach Advertising Watch for our ads that are due to come out in September in The Palm Beach Post’s Neighborhood Post, and in Neighbor News, inviting people to the Building Healthy Relationships series. Should the Lord send some people our way we need to be prepared to make people feel welcome.
It has been said many times that word-of-mouth is the most effective advertising. Think of these ads as a support for yourself in doing your own word-of-mouth advertising. When asked "How are you?" you might feel encouraged to reply, "I'm feeling hopeful. I just saw our ad for our church's fall program on building healthy relationships. I really enjoyed the program last year. I hope we have even more people to share this year's program with. Did you see our ad?"
Looking forward to being back "home" in time for Church on the 7th, barring any hurricanes.
Reminders:
We will be forming our team of small group leaders in the next couple of weeks. If you would be willing to lead or host a small group, please call me.
We are gathering pictures of those who attend our church, but not born into the New Church. Please bring your picture to the Church and see Ken A., Janina H. or Dean B.

Outreach We have a busy but exciting Fall shaping up regarding the Journey Series, based on the Sermon on the Mount. There are two registration events coming up. The first takes place on Saturday, September 13th at 7:30 pm. It features David Lindrooth, Director of General Church Outreach, talking about why and how to reach out to others, followed by a Q & A. We then will formally introduce our visiting candidate Robert C. and his wife and son. They will share the story of their journey bringing them to the New Church and why he was "called" to the ministry. The Woman's Guild is helping to host the event by providing desserts, coffee & tea. Should you be willing to bring a dessert please see Pat K. I will be bringing key lime pie! This evening should provide good fellowship, be entertaining, informative and useful. We expect to end by 9:30 pm.
The second event, our official "Kick Off" to the series is October 4th at 5:30 pm. After a light dinner & mixer the culmination will be a Vesper service. We will conclude about 8 pm.
We will be forming our team of small group leaders in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to or be willing to lead or host a small group, please call me.
Note: We are gathering pictures of those who attend our church, but not born into the New Church. Please bring your picture to the Church and see Ken A., Janina H. or Dean B..

Dear Boynton Beach Society,
This October I am walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Charlotte, NC. I will be walking a distance of...39 miles...over two days, in honor of my mother, Carol B., who has been a breast cancer survivor for 9 years now.
...I am required to raise at least $1800 in donations (I hope to exceed that amount), and for that I need your help.... You can make a donation to my fundraising campaign right on the Avon Walk website at avonwalk.org, or if you prefer to write a check, just contact my mother or me and I can send you a Donation Coupon.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and encouragement....

Dear Boynton Beach Society,
Please join us for a BB Society conference call on Wed. night, July 23rd at 8 pm, EST. We are looking for input, ideas and suggestions regarding plans for the upcoming Journey series, Sermon On the Mount: Building Healthy Relationships.
Ken and I have come up with several ideas for events, etc. and we would like to bounce these ideas around with you. This project is put on by the Society members and we really value your help. Joining in on the call does not commit you to joining in on the series. But with so many of our members away at this crucial planning time we would like to borrow your brain for a thirty minute conference call. If you can only join in for a few minutes that's okay too.
So please help us by joining this call. You will pay your regular long distance phone company at your plan rate for this call to Duluth, Minnesota. (For example, if you have unlimited long distance, the call is free. If you pay 5 cents a minute, a half hour would come to $1.50) There is no cost to the church for using this service. Please call Ken if you will be joining us, so he can give you the access details.
Thank You!

Some of You Have Unclaimed Property
A website sponsored by Alex Sink, the chief financial officer of the state of Florida connects people with their unclaimed property. I found no property of my own there, but on entering a few names from our phone directory, I found some of you had unclaimed property. It might be worth your while to enter your name and those of your relatives, living and deceased. Go to http://www.fltreasurehunt.org, and follow the instructions. Happy treasure hunting! (At least one other state has a similar website, so you might check other places you have lived.)

New Duty for Refreshment Volunteers A suggestion is being implemented on a trial basis. Why keep a tank of water hot all week long when you only need it for a few hours per week? A simple solution to lowering energy costs is this:
When you set up the coffee urn, make it part of your routine to go into the Conference room. To the right of the refrigerator is a circuit breaker panel. Open the door and switch on the circuit breaker marked with a red X. Hot water should be ready by the time you need it for clean-up. When you finish doing the dishes, the clean coffee urn can be your reminder to go back and switch off that same circuit breaker, saving all that energy until next time. A reminder is posted next to the coffee maker instructions.
Dear Friends at Boynton Beach,
Even though I am many miles away, be assured that diligent work is taking place for the Fall Journey Campaign. Whether it is meetings in Bryn Athyn, conference calls, e-mailing, phoning, etc. work is going on behind the scenes with the “team.” The goal is to make this series most useful for us as a congregation. Additionally, we hope to live up to our task of introducing others to our wonderful teachings. Even one more person who is introduced to the Church will be of benefit to that person and us as a congregation. The sky is not even the limit!
To quote the Rev. David Lindrooth, Director of General Church Outreach, “Our tracking records indicate that in the Societies where the majority of members choose to enroll in the program the better success there is in attracting the local public into the program.”
This year's manual on Healthy Relationships was written by Rev. David Lindrooth along with the Rev. John Odnner. It was crafted from “the ground up” and incorporates many suggestions made after last year's series.
It is our goal that the Journey will enrich and enlighten.
Happy summer to all!

Why We Do Outreach Think of all the people who attend our church who were not born into the New Church. If you go through our phone list, you will be amazed at how many people the Lord has blessed us with and how many have been blessed by the Lord to now know the Heavenly Doctrine.
In the coming weeks, your leadership team for the upcoming Sermon on the Mount outreach program plans to post pictures of these people the Lord has blessed us with. In addition, we would like to post their short answers to the question: “What is one gem you have found in the Heavenly Doctrine that you would share with others?”
If your parents were not in the New Church when you were born, you could help us out by lending or giving us a picture of yourself and your answer to the above question. These can be given to Janina H. or Kenneth Alden.

In the Glenview New Church, Glenview, Illinois (USA) we have started a group
to read the entire theological writings of Emanuel Swedenborg at a rate of 5
pages per day, except for the 12 volume set of "Heavenly Secrets" (a.k.a.
"Arcana Caelestia") which we will read at a rate of 3 pages per day. The
entire effort will take just over 11 years. We have a listserve for
receiving updates and for ongoing discussion. There is also a bi-monthly,
optional discussion group that will meet in Glenview, and which can be
accessed either in person or via conference phone call. You are welcome to
join the listserve by subscribing at http://5pday.gnccommunity.net/ or by
sending a blank email to 5pday-subscribe@lists.gnccommunity.net
We actually got started on the 19th of June, so you have a little bit of
catching up to do, starting with "Heavenly Secrets".
Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
Sincerely,
The Rev. Mark Pendleton

Bishop Keith has asked pastors to publicize a need for the hand-made golden girdles worn around a minister’s waist as a kind of sash. He writes:
“We have run into a challenge with one of our clerical vestments. Sherry K., who has faithfully been producing the golden girdles for our robes, is no longer able to make all that we will need. We are exploring whether there are others in the church who would be willing to participate in this use. Sherry can provide instruction, so it does not have to be someone who is already accomplished in handiwork.
These hand made girdles are wonderful, but they take a great deal of time and attention to detail – she estimates about 100 hours for each one. While we don’t want to sound alarmist, we may need to look for commercial products if this system does not continue.
Could you see if there is anyone in your congregations who might be willing to help?
