Living Courageously Dates Choosing the dates for this outreach effort brought to mind that painful observation that you cannot please all the people all the time! January 10th through March 7th are the dates to mark on your calendar.
Although there were more who favored these dates than the others, the survey showed that many people favored the Fall and February alternatives.
To put the January start in the best light, let me observe that it won't be interrupted by Charter Day or the rummage sale; we'll have more people in town than in the Fall; we'll have to work around fewer visitors than in March; we'll find out if it is a reasonably good time both for us and those we reach out to by actually trying it; and if it turns out to be a flop, we'll easily move it back to the Fall when Eldergarten resumes the following year.
To those who are disappointed by the choice of dates, I hope that things open up to allow you to participate in some way, and that in any case, you can support us with your good will.
Thank you to all who responded to the survey in April and May.

How to Become a Member of the New Church at Boynton Beach
1) Baptism is a sign of willingness to be instructed about the Lord Jesus Christ according to the Heavenly Doctrine and a sign of entrance into the New Church. The pastor would be happy to discuss any aspect of baptism with you.
2) Application for membership in the General Church shows willingness to participate in the life of the branch of the church which acknowledges that the Heavenly Doctrines are also the Lord's Word, including willingness to work under the church's governmental structure and to further its uses. The pastor can help you make this application to the bishop.
3) Applying to the pastor and signing the role of a local society shows a willingness to participate fully in the local congregation and under its bylaws to carry out its purposes.

Announcement from Bishop Kline
...Over the past year much work has been done to determine the best way to support and explore a system for New Church education throughout the Church.
With this goal in mind, I am appointing the Rev. Eric Carswell to take on the role of Bishop's Representative for Education. Eric will provide spiritual leadership for all educational uses in the General Church and Academy. Even before Eric formally steps into this role, he will lead a process to identify a person to fill the role of Director of New Church Education (K-12). This is a second key position in the reorganization of leadership for New Church education. These positions will become effective on July 1, 2009....
Announcement from Bishop Keith
We are happy to announce the placement of two candidates, presuming they successfully complete their academic programs and are ordained.
Thane Glenn has been assigned to the Bryn Athyn College. He has been a professor of English there while attending Theological School on a part time basis. At least half of his course load will be religion and at least for next year he will continue with some English courses.
Coleman Glenn has been assigned to Toronto. Coleman will assist Jim Cooper in the congregation and will also have extensive travel work in Dawson Creek and other western Canada groups.
We are still in process of working out assignments for the others and expect to announce them in the next few weeks.

Many have seen our new publications for the General Church (Around the New Church) and the Academy (The Lion's Pride), but not everyone in your congregation may be on the mailing list.
Around the New Church is mailed only the General Church members. The Lion's Pride is mailed only to Academy alumni. However, we realize that many people not on the mailing lists might enjoy seeing the publications to learn about what is going on in the Church and Academy.
We will be sending the pastor additional copies of The Lion's Pride in December for anyone interested.

Director of Communication
