"Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it,
and gave it to them and said, 'Take, eat, this is My body.'
Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks
He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
And He said to them, 'This is My blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for many'" (Mark 14:22-24).

At the end of His public ministry on earth, the Lord established the sacrament of the Holy Supper. This sacrament is intended to become a vital part of our religious life. For its purpose is to be an expression of our bond or link with the Lord God Jesus Christ. But first we must come before the Lord, ready to receive what only He can give us. In preparation, we examine ourselves, read the Word, or reflect on the Lord's great love for the human race. This is a time for humility, recognizing our spiritual dependence on our Heavenly Father. When we come to the Lord in a receptive state, the bread and wine become a spiritual meal, a concrete representation of bringing the Lord's love and wisdom into our lives.

To learn more about the Lord's Holy Supper, we suggest you read The Holy Supper by Rev. Patrick Rose, An Invitation to the Holy Supper by Rev. Grant Odhner, and Self-Examination in the Lord's Presence by Rt. Rev. Peter M. Buss. Children may enjoy reading about the First Holy Supper and coloring a picture of the Lord Celebrating the Passover with His Disciples.
