Early Childhood
Religious Education

As parents, one of our primary goals is to help our children learn to love the Lord and His truths so that they can one day live with Him in heaven to eternity. Children love hearing stories from the Lord’s Word over and over again. They respond instinctively and affectionately to truths about the Lord and His teachings. The Office of Education has developed this program to support you in meeting the spiritual needs of your children.

Starting in September and going through June, your family will receive a package each month based on a story from the Word with spiritual concepts that have been carefully chosen for young children. We are again starting at the beginning of our three-year rotation, with the wonderful Creation Box project. Since we have three age levels—A (0-1), B (2-3), and C (4-5)—even if your children participated three years ago, they will be receiving new materials. And, of course, we will be revising and improving!

This three-year program is the culmination of many people’s creativity and labor. Cathy Schnarr, the program’s coordinator, has worked with Office of Education staff members and enthusiastic volunteers to make it a reality. The cost of this program is $25 US per child if you order before August 20th. After that date the cost will be $30 US per child. Only one shipping charge will be applied per family. In the U.S.A., shipping costs $20 US per family; in Canada, shipping is $30 US per family. Overseas addresses will be $45 US per family. (Interoffice mail has no shipping costs.)

We do not want lack of funds to stop you from receiving this program. Payment plans and scholarships are available.

Please note: Even if you are already receiving the program, you need to fill out a new form for the coming year!

Illustrated Story: These booklets for children in levels B & C (ages 2-5), retell a story from the Word in simple language or describe concepts about the Lord and heaven in story form. These can be read several times or kept for use in family worship.
Talk-About Picture: Sent to level A (0-1), these lovely pictures, complete with a simple quote, give parents a focus to use in talking to their youngest children about the Lord and the story in the very gentlest terms. They can be framed or mounted.
Projects & Materials: An age-appropriate project for each level brings the story to life for children in a fun and memorable experience. Effort is made to involve all five senses and also the world of nature to affix ideas in the children’s minds. Suggestions for additional enrichment activities are often included.
Song CD: A CD with songs and poems to use with each month’s topic will be sent inone of the first few packages. The simple joyful music, performed by various New Church artists, can be played over and over to reinforce children’s memories of the stories.
Parent Pamphlet & Inspiration Cards: These instructional and inspirational materials seek to nurture parents in their vital use of child-raising while providing ways to deepen their understanding of New Church doctrines and the ideals of spiritual instruction.

Is the Introductory Level of the new Jacob’s Ladder series. This level is patterned on the Religion Curriculum for Kindergarten (ages 5-6), but older and some younger children may also find the material interesting and instructive.
