Your task this week is to do self-examination by identifying false gods. Notice what feelings or thoughts about people or things rule over you and occupy your mind. Do you find yourself dwelling on troublesome people, political problems, or financial concerns, while leaving little room for God? Do you find yourself being ruled by the god of fear, hatred, greed, lust, self-pity, hopelessness, or resentment? Pay attention to whatever it is that separates you from the experience of God’s immediate presence. Identify it as a false god and name it.
