Topic:
Communication in Relationships - This is an interactive workshop where participants are encouraged to take a step back for an honest look at the ways they communicate. To do so, we model everyday scenarios that young people may encounter and provide strategies for diffusing conflict and misunderstanding. To solidify the information, participants engage in role plays that emphasize speaking with kindness, clarity and courage. The atmosphere is light and relaxed, and we encourage involvement.
Audience: High School and College age participants.
Logistics: Time period is flexible.
Background:
Glen and Sasha live in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. Glen has a BA in English and History from Bucknell University, and Sasha has a BA in Psychology from Gettysburg College. (Fun fact: In May of '97 both gave the graduation speech for their class - Sasha for Academy of the New Church, and Glen for Bucknell.) Glen taught video production for two years at ANC and spent 5 summers as head counselor at Tools 4 Life - a camp for college-bound students. Glen is a veteran US Army Information Operations Officer, and currently runs a business in residential painting. Sasha has led Ten Commandments seminars for adults in Tema, Ghana and in Pittsburg, PA. She taught English for one year in Japan, and now teaches English as a second language at CSC Institute.
Experiences with this workshop:
- Sasha and Glen taught a 3-day version of this course (2 hours a day) at Bryn Athyn Church's "Tools 4 Life" camp.
- They gave a 90-minute talk in Massachusetts at Springfield College's Leadership Training Conference
- They gave a 60-minute "teaser" to Academy of the New Church high school students to offer a taste of the workshop to come at Tools 4 Life this coming year.
