Answering Some Specific Objections to the New Church and It's Teachings

  1. How come I've never heard of the New Church? Why is it so small?

    • Prophecy - it was prophesied that it would be among a few in the beginning
    • Education - most of our efforts have been in educating our young
    • Snail's growth - we have been growing, unlike many other churches
    • Truth - the New Church isn't a fad nor does it offer quick-fix solutions, it just offers the facts about religion and life

  2. Swedenborg cuts books out of God's Word

    • Spiritual sense - only books with an inner meaning are Divine revelation
    • Who chose your canon?
    • Is your canon correct? How do you know?
    • Humans chose your's - (we believe the Lord chose ours)

  3. You are adding to the Word of God

    • Apocalypse - the warning is exclusive to the Apocalypse
    • Deuteronomy 4:2 - warned not to add back then (a lot has been added since)
    • Infill - the Writings don't add truth, they infill it
    • Truth - promise of the Spirit of Truth (John 16)

  4. It's a cult

    • We worship the Lord Jesus Christ
    • We have been firmly established for over 200 years
    • Many highly respected people have read the Writings and have said that the teachings of the New Church have had an influence on their lives.
