Day Seven: A Journey that Never Ends
The exodus from Egypt to Canaan is the journey of our lives. The Lord has revealed this story in His Word so that we can have the light to see our way and to gain bigger perspective on the journey.
In the broadest interpretation of the story, our whole life on this earth takes us from Egypt to Canaan. But in specific areas of our lives we make this journey over and over again. We go from Egypt to Canaan every time we leave the captivity of some selfish love for the freedom of a love from heaven. At any given moment in our lives we are taking a step on the journey.
We might be standing still right now before a great sea, waiting to hear the words,"Go forward." We might be in the desert, drinking the water that pours forth fromthe rock. Or we could be eating heavenly manna that covers the ground. At every point, the Lord shows us the way, so we need not fear even when we are in the wilderness.
At the end of Moses’ life, when he was on Mount Nebo looking over the promised land, he probably thought back to another mountain on which he stood forty years before. The Lord had appeared to him then in the fire of the burning bush and said, "I will be with you." Now that the journey was over, Moses knew the power of the Lord. The Lord had been with him. Moses could see the reality of the promised land. The journey was worthwhile, and the promise was true.
We, too, will have mountaintop moments when we see the promised land in our own lives. It may be for only a moment, but we will look out and see the glory of Canaan before us. In those moments of joy, we realize the power and glory of the Lord. We see that He has called us because He has a purpose and plan for our lives. We see that the Lord is with us, that we are in His hands, that He cares for us. He gives hope and comfort. The promise of Canaan is true, and with His help we can make the journey and find eternal joy.
Even though we are coming to the end of this particular process, the journey is just beginning. We will move forward with new tools, guidance, insights, friendships and a greater trust in the Lord’s plan. Our progress toward the promised land is still unfolding before us – and we can see our goal in front of us – a life with more peace, joy, trust, acceptance and abundance, and an eternal life in heaven as one of the Lord’s angels.
Insight
