Week Five: Manna in the Wilderness

Day Four: Enough for Today

"Let no one leave any of it until the morning" means that they must not be anxious to acquire it of themselves. This is clear from the fact that the manna was given every morning and that worms bred in what was left over, meaning that the Lord provides people’s requirements every day and that for this reason they ought not to be anxious to acquire them of themselves. The same thing is meant by daily bread in the Lord’s Prayer. Secrets of Heaven 8478

There is a profound teaching found in the words "Let no one leave any of it until the morning." The Lord tells us that He will provide and care for us every moment of every day. We can trust Him and trust that He will always be there when we turn to Him. In any occupation or state of life, there are daily opportunities to practice turning to the Lord for support. When we have a problem that we don’t know how to solve, a difficult person we don’t know how to deal with, or are just feeling overwhelmed, turning to the Lord for help can make a huge difference. The Lord is reminding us that we need to turn to Him daily to ask for and receive the things that we need. In the Lord’s Prayer we are reminded of this principle in the words, "Give us this day, our daily bread.’ One translator renders those words, ’Give us today, enough bread for today,’ reminding us to develop a daily habit of approaching the Lord.

Key Point
It can be tempting to feel dissatisfied with life. But the Lord is taking care of us and will provide for our spiritual needs - we just need to know how to identify and accept His help.

Gratitude Exercise
Today I am thankful for...

Reflections
One way we show gratitude to the Lord is by wisely using the gifts He has given us. For example, if you are in good health, find ways to help other people who are not. If He gave you the gift of singing, sign up to sing at a nursing home or your local worship service. When you use the gifts the Lord has given you, then your gratitude is palpable. How can you actively show your gratitude to the Lord today?
