Day Four: One Day at a Time

The journey is to be made one day at a time. The pillar of cloud will show us each day’s journey. In the New Testament Jesus told us not to be anxious about tomorrow, that He will take care of the overall direction of the journey. We need to focus on the one step that will bring us closer to Canaan today and let go of worrying about the future. If the children of Israel had been shown on the day they left Egypt every hardship and obstacle they would have to face over the next forty years, they would have given up. But because the Lord led them and provided for them day by day they were able to continue on the journey. Think of new parents beginning the journey of raising children – if they knew all the hard times that lay ahead, between sleepless nights and getting driver’s licenses, they would probably give up right away. But by living our lives one day at a time, we give the overall vision of the journey into the care of the Lord, and we take responsibility for the one small step of today.

In the face of worries and concerns, often the best thing we can do is take action. Whether writing a note, making a phone call, or cleaning a room, taking even a small action puts our heartfelt desires into motion.
