The New Church message about the meaning of Christmas is that God came on earth as Jesus Christ to show people how divine life supports and blesses human beings on earth. This was why the angel was so excited when he shared the good news with the shepherds and said:

“Behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2

The angel rejoiced because with the advent the Lord gives people a way to more fully comprehend the life that creates them, heals them and causes all true happiness and peace. In other words, with the advent story we can understand and have a clearer picture of who God is because He lived among us and interacted with us on earth as Jesus Christ. In this story, we can see how Divine life is accessible and helps us be happy.
