About the Program
Throughout this section, you will notice on the right hand side "Foundations" — quotes from the Old and New Testaments and the Writings for the New Church — that shed light on where the ideas in this program were drawn from. These Foundations quotes are unique for every day or every page of the section. Also throughout the website, there are Key Points and Insights that help to explain the Foundations and/or draw attention to main ideas from the body text.
Each week has a Resources page replete with Activities to use with your small group (or with a friend or spouse), a link to the Discussion Board, the Sermons that apply to the week, and special features to support marriage relationships.
We encourage you to take time to reflect on your own life, the implications of the lessons presented in the Exodus story, and the deeper meaning revealed in the teachings of the New Church.
The Writings for the New Church teach us that the literal story of Exodus has a deeper, internal meaning enclosed in it. This deeper meaning is brought out in the Writings for the New Church, specifically in the book Arcana Coelestia (translated Secrets of Heaven) that goes systematically through the Exodus story. In Secrets of Heaven you can find an in-depth explanation of the deeper meaning of each verse of the story of the children of Israel. Secrets of Heaven carefully describes ways that the teachings in the story can be applied to different areas of our spiritual life. Throughout this program, we have included some of these teachings to help you in your process of exploring the Exodus story and applying it to your life. Secrets of Heaven is full of wonderful teachings and if you are interested in more in-depth study we encourage you to read Exodus 1-40 and also Secrets of Heaven 6627-10837.
