Professional Development for General Church Teacher
The Office of Education promotes professional development among those teaching in schools affiliated with the General Church. Teachers are encouraged to attend workshops and take graduate courses to enhance their teaching. Teachers may also take religion and education courses through The Academy Theological School and earn a Master of Arts in religious studies. These courses can assist teachers in exploring ways to help students learn about the Lord by enriching their New Church perspective on the subjects they are teaching and on the process of human development.
The Office of Education also provides direct support for teachers and school administrators. We offer observation and evaluations as well as phone consultations. New Church curriculum provides the structure for developing lesson plans and supporting materials are available through the unit box program. The Office of Education maintains a lending library of educational books and videos that can aid the teacher in both theory and practice. We also help to coordinate inservice programs and professional meetings.
Teaching in a New Church school is a both a weighty responsibility and a joy. The Office of Education is available to help teachers continually improve.
