The story still has power today. The Lord's birth can take place in every person, and His work of salvation goes on continually.

Many people believe that He was born so that He might die (why else would an immortal being become mortal?) and this to appease His angry Father. But the idea of a bloodthirsty Father and a sacrificial Son just doesn't fit with the New Church perspective of a single loving God, that God is love itself, and that Jesus and Jehovah are the same Person.
