The New Church teaches that the Lord is not coming again in person, but in a new understanding of Him in the Old and New Testaments. Throughout history, the Lord has always had some way of connecting with people on earth. Due to human choice, people in the earliest church who had direct communication with Him, lost this connection, causing other means of connection to be established. Over time evil caused human freedom to be threatened. The Lord came to earth and established the Christian church. Eventually the teachings of the Christian church became perverted, and this falling away from the true message caused darkness to come over people again. The Lord has now come again in a new revelation of truth. In the teachings of the New Church, He shows us the true nature of God and the deeper meaning of the Bible. He teaches about marriage lasting to eternity and how we can strive to attain true married love. These teachings can open up a new connection with the Lord and a new way of living. It is in our accepting and living by this new body of truth that the Second Coming affects our lives.
