The New Church and Commitment

< Back to Articles

seedlingsIn the New Church you will notice a strong emphasis on an individual's freedom on their spiritual journey. Many people are connected to the New Church and the Writings of Swedenborg, but have not formally joined the church. This is your invitation to join our spiritual community and organization, and to show your commitment to doing the Lord's work on earth.

Spiritual Commitment of Baptism
Baptism does not mean you understand every last detail of revelation. It means you believe the basics: Jesus Christ is the one God; you are to live by what the Lord teaches to become a good person; and that the Old and New Testaments, as well as Swedenborg's Writings, are a revelation from the Lord. Baptism is an introduction into the life of the New Church, a spiritual promise. This sacrament represents our willingness to be “washed clean” by the Lord and to be led by His truth.

Organizational Commitment
The membership of the General Church is made up of those who have been baptized into the faith of the New Church and subscribe to the principles and purposes of the General Church. Find out more about membership and download a membership form today.
