Though New Church teachings are different from traditional Christianity, the basis of the teachings is a belief in Jesus Christ as both God and Savior

At the advent, God took on a human form as Jesus Christ. When He was born, He was born of Mary, a virgin. This meant that He was initially mortal as to His body, but divine as to His soul.

During His life on earth, He was repeatedly attacked by evil. With every attack, He overcame the evil, exposing it for what it was.

Throughout His life, He demonstrated perfect love and faith united as one. In doing this, the divinity in His soul was gradually able to descend into that Human Form until the moment of the resurrection when He was completely Divine as to His body.

That human became one with the infinite. That is why He taught us in His Word that "I and My Father are one" (John 10:30); "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" (John 14:9); "All power has been given to Me in heaven and on earth" (Matthew 28:18). Now we can understand and be joined with a loving, visible God, a Divine Creator who comes to us in human form – the Lord God Jesus Christ.
